Brief
To design a set of artefacts through a personal narrative. They should be solitary and tailored to the individual and must be part of a ritual.
Design
The project Kioku (which means remembrance in Japanese) has personal narrative behind the concept. The set of artefacts are with the purpose of helping to remember through the ritual of caring for the tree. Each of the three artefacts have a particular story behind the Japanese culture. The artefacts produced included; a slip-cast vessel, concrete cast bonsai pot and walnut stand.
Process
Research began through exploring the culture of the bonsai tree, it's history and significance. Further research uncovered styles and the rituals of the trees.
Sketching and research were key in the development of the artefacts. The project taught me new skills when casting the vessel and concrete pot.
