Brief
QFC recognised an evolving trend in domestic environments, namely that of open plan living. Sofas have become more obviously free-standing and can be used to define space, and create zones within a larger space. Given the choice of designing for one of three possible retailers; Ikea, Next and John Lewis, all with very different clientele and price points we were set to design a sofa fitting under this evermore popular trend.
Design
Flexible and contemporary, a comfortable sofa with sharp lines and details, Kanter, is a Scandinavian inspired sofa. Designed in influence of the desirable trend of open plan living. The sofa is upholstered with use of quality Kvadrad fabrics in compliment with the natural light ash timber feet and table.
Kanter as standard comes as a two seater with a table and storage. The handly table can be used to rest your laptop whilst working, coffee whilst relaxing or even a place for a light. Additionally the space underneath can be used as storage.
Process
Research began by investigating into the three retailers. Deciding to design for John Lewis the research furthered to pantones looking at light blues, greys and light beige fitting the Scandi feel.
Key research took place to uncover how the modern day sofa is used within a domestic environment. We looked at user trends and the functions we discussed what would be useful in an open plan home e.g. features like pockets and storage.
